Welcome to Open Kitchen Brighton!

We would like to create a community cooking space in the heart of the city, for people with a passion for food. This will give people access to a commercial kitchen space from which they can learn, share and improve skills while potentially starting food-related ventures.

We'd like to start this as a membership-based non-profit organisation, and grow it to the point where we can take on an unused commercial space in which people can experiment with business ideas. This could be in the form of "pop-up" style restaurant evenings, that don't have the same risks as opening a traditional restaurant, or small-scale catering and food production which can be scaled up elsewhere.

Doing these kind of things at home is beyond the means of many people in Brighton and Hove, as a large proportion of city residents live in flats with inadequately sized kitchens for this type of work. When people do have the space, they lack contact with and the support of peers with whom to share knowledge and experience.

Walking along Preston Street, which has in the past been the home of world cuisine in the city, there seem to be many opportunities for suitable vacant premises, and a project such as this would contribute to the regeneration of the area.

It would be great to have the support of people in the city to build something as, if not more, successful, than coworking spaces across the city, such as The Skiff and The Werks, and collaborative community groups such as BuildBrighton.
